Can someone explain this one to me?

I came across this op-ed, and I simply don't understand it - could anyone explain to me what the heck he is going on about? And why he is going on about it?

We serve up raw meat and lots of hypocrisy

The worst part is that it written by a professor of journalism.

    I mostly get it. It's a flip of 'everybody laughs along until it's their ox being gored', a call for more critical thinking when a pundit confects outrage as entertainment.

    I agree that he hasn't been able to distill his point well in the length of the column. He needed an article twice as long, so he could build his arguments more thoroughly instead of skipping about on the edge of non sequitur.
